Madinat Jumeirah is an Arabic style beachside resort to the south of Umm Suqeim and next to the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel. The resort has five hotels, Jumeirah Mina A’ Salamand Jumeirah Al Qasr, Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf, Jumeirah Malakiya Villas and Jumeirah Al Naseem, as well as a number of traditional summer houses and villas.
There are over 40 restaurants and bars as well as conference and banqueting facilities, a 1000-seat amphitheatre and the Madinat Arena entertainment centre. These places are set around meandering waterways on which you can be ferried along in traditional boats known as abras.
At the centre of it all is the Souk Madinat Jumeirah, a traditional Arabic style street bazaar. Built around a maze of winding (indoor) streets the bazaar includes open-shuttered shops as well as merchants selling from barrows. Shoppers can find everything from traditional wares to designer goods, and take a break at one of the many coffee shops and food stalls. Shops are open from 10am to 11pm seven days a week.
Fort Island, which was built in 2003, was enlarged in 2015 to become the largest hotel space for events in the UAE. Spanning 1,750sq m and with a capacity of up to 1,400 people the space can be used to host parties, exhibitions, weddings, sports events and festivals.
Fort Island is connected to Madinat Jumeirah by four bridges.
