Bur Dubai Overview
Bur Dubai is part of the original Dubai city and includes a number of historic districts on the western banks of Dubai Creek across the water from Deira.
The influence of Dubai’s huge Indian population is evident here in Bur Dubai, in the many markets, shops and restaurants, as well as the only Hindu temple in Dubai.
Residential properties in Bur Dubai are mainly villas or low-rise apartments. Local amenities are plentiful, with more than 20 schools, 25 clinics, eight public parks and scores of cafés and restaurants.

Bur Dubai Amenities
Although Deira, on the other side of the creek, boasts the best collection of souks, the best textile markets are to be found in Bur Dubai, home as it is to the majority of Dubai’s Asian population.
Other attractions include Za'abeel Park, a $50-million technology-themed public park, the Burjuman shopping mall, with its 300 leading stores including Saks 5th Avenue, and Lamcy Plaza, a ‘classic older style mall’.
Bur Dubai’s proximity to Deira on the one hand and Downtown Dubai on the other makes it a popular place to live, with quick and easy access to most areas of Dubai. Both the E11 Sheikh Zayed Road and the E66 Dubai-Al Ain Road pass through, so that from Al Karama in central Bur Dubai it's 11 minutes by car to the Dubai Mall with its shops, cinemas and restaurants, 19 to the International Airport, 20 to the Mall of the Emirates, 22 to Dubai Marina, and an hour and a half to Abu Dhabi.
Bur Dubai History
A number of historic buildings bear witness to the importance of Bur Dubai, notably the house where Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum, the visionary Ruler of Dubai (1912-1958), once lived. His grandson, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the present Ruler. Nearby is the Al Shindagha Watchtower, built in 1939 for defence and restored in 1994, and several other historic buildings that together give a sense of what this place was like in the good old low-rise days.
Many foreign embassies are located in the diplomatic area along the banks of the Creek, together with various government and royal buildings.
