The Opera District Overview

The Opera District is a new area in Downtown Dubai designed to energise Dubai’s events and tourism sectors by providing a stylish cultural destination.

It aims to promote the arts, culture, and events scene by ensuring global exchange and promoting local talent.

The Opera District will feature luxury hotels, elegantly designed residential and serviced apartments, a retail plaza, waterfront promenades, recreational spaces and parks.

The Opera District will eventually become part of the nine-suburb Dubai development centred on ‘The Needle’ at Dubai Creek Harbour which will be the world's tallest tower.

The Opera District is located off Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai.

The district includes cultural facilities, residential properties and leisure amenities, and is to be the UAE’s new cultural centre.

Surrounding Dubai Opera, the country’s first multi-format theatre, will be a museum, two art themed hotels, design studios and galleries.

The homes for sale within the district will provide an exclusive and exception place to live and enjoy culture and the arts.

The new Dubai Opera has been designed by the award-winning architects WS Atkins. Its form echoes the traditional Emirati dhows which can still be seen sailing in the Dubai Creek.

Inside, the 21,530 sq ft interior houses a state-of-the-art 2,000-seat multi-purpose performing arts venue. Moveable floors enable the space to be converted into different formats: an opera house, theatre, concert hall, banquet hall or exhibition space.

Outside, a sky garden and rooftop restaurant.

The Opera District will also include luxury hotels, a retail plaza, waterfront promenades, recreational spaces and parks, as well as up-market residential and serviced apartments.

The residential developments include Opera Grand, Forte, The Address Residences Dubai Opera and Il Primo.

Opera Grand was launched in 2014 and is a 66-storey tower housing over 200 luxury two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments as well as two levels of cafes, restaurants and shops, and a grand entrance lobby. A rooftop pool and health club with unobstructed views of Burj Lake complete the scene.

Forte has been designed by the award-winning Japanese architects, Nikken Sekkei and comprises two towers of 71 floors and 41 floors. The one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments range from 650 sq ft to 2,329 sq ft. A six-storey podium at the base of the towers will contain a new museum of modern art, restaurants and retail facilities, a health club with swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna and spa.

Forte is expected to be completed by December 2019.

The Address Residences Dubai Opera is a twin tower project designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, architects of the Burj Khalifa. One tower, at 65 storeys high, will contain 626 residential apartments with one to five bedrooms as well as penthouses. Sizes range from 793 sq ft to 5,232 sq ft. The second tower, at 55 storeys, will be a luxury hotel with serviced apartments.

The towers are connected by a wide podium with a range of retail, leisure and lifestyle amenities. Facilities will include 24-hour concierge, business suite, library, fitness centre with swimming pool, spa and gymnasium and signature restaurant. The Address Residences Dubai Opera is scheduled for completion in mid 2020.

Il Primo is a 77-storey tower containing 119 four- and five-bedroom so-called “lateral" apartments taking up either half or a whole floor. The larger apartments are around 4,979 sq ft in size with a balcony terrace of 708 sq ft. The smaller ones are 4,979 sq ft and will have 279 sq ft balconies. All apartments will have full-height glazing offering views of the new Opera House, Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai.

The Il Primo Tower will also have a podium containing a gym, cigar lounge, a library, cinema and spa and is expected to be completed in September 2020.

Construction Updates


The prestigious site is framed by large lakes, fountains and an array of mixed-use development.

HOK developed a comprehensive master plan organizing the vehicular and pedestrian circulation to create a vibrant cultural district while positioning the towers to frame key views.

Developed in collaboration with the client’s management team, engineering disciplines, retail consultants and the various tower architects, the master plan and landscape strategy completes the public realm.

The accelerated development schedule meant that the Burj Khalifa Tower site was in constant evolution. A master plan report and design guidelines set the framework for the next stage of implementation.
