  • Construction began in 2005 and was completed by 2010.
  • The architect of the project was Foster + Partners.
  • The main building work was done by Multiplex and the piling work was carried out by Swissboring Overseas Piling Corporation.
  • Other companies involved with The Index include BG&E Engineering and Union Properties.
  • Winner of the CTBUH award for ‘Best Tall Building Middle East & Africa 2011.

  • The characteristic long and narrow floor plan design is a result of the need for a column-free flexible office space whilst maximising natural light throughout.

  • In order to achieve an open office space the structural cores had to be pushed to the edges of the building and a solid A-frame shape was devised to help dissipate any wind or seismic forces. The weight of the upper residential section is spread across a huge steel beam that transfers the load to the lower A-frame cores.

  • The architectural design was partly inspired by the John Hancock Centre in Chicago.

  • The lower outside space is surrounded by a 200-metre-long pool and benefits from its own microclimate created by a shaded atrium which is naturally cooled by the downdraft of the building facade.

  • The east to west orientation shields the office spaces from intense sunlight in the morning and evening and the south face of the tower features shading elements which help to keep the building cool.

  • The building is crowned with 12 luxury duplex and triplex penthouses with private swimming pools.

  • The original master plan had specified two separate residential and commercial towers which were later consolidated into a single mixed use tower with offices on the lower 25 floors and residential apartments and penthouses above.

  • A sky lobby with restaurants, shops, a gym and a swimming pool divides the upper and lower sections.

Great apartment
Great view and quality in the middle of the city
No window in the living room, small second bedroom
Great tower, simple from the outside, amazing on the inside. Apartment is very modern (shiny white surfaces, hidden built-in appliances, etc.) and has an amazing view over DIFC and Sheikh Zayed Road. Although we are in the middle of the buzzing city, our flat is very quiet and peaceful. The more… pool and the gym on the lobby level is probably the best I've seen in Dubai. Show less

Well Kept and Spacious
Two elevators need to be taken to get to your apartment
Index Tower is very well kept and feels spacious from the moment you walk into the apartment building to the corridors on the floors. Cleanliness and spaciousness is all you can think of.

Posh with a great location
View, impressive building, gym
Ridiculous closets, apartment layout, price
Pros: View, floor-ceiling windows, the best gym I have seen here (also with a view), modern finishings, bright interior, huge doors to the apartment, great staff. Cons: Cost, wasted space, no walking areas, moving in/out. This building looks impressive from a visitor's perspective. Inside is clean, modern, and sleek. It is easy more… to find, and being right by Dubai Mall and Gate Village means there is no shortage of restaurants that deliver to you quickly. Traffic can get congested on Financial Center Road (71) toward Jumeirah in the evenings, but things flow smoothly in general. The layout of the apartment has a lot of wasted space (pointless hallway, closets that cannot be used, and the tub and shower are separate to necessitate a huge, space-wasting bathroom), and there are massive electronics boxes that are virtually useless in each apartment. Doesn't feel like a 900+ sq ft. apartment. To move furniture in/out of the building or get a delivery, you need to give several days notice and the moving/delivery company needs to submit paperwork to the building to gain clearance into the delivery section of the building. This was quite the surprise when we tried to have our couch delivered and had to wait a week! Pet owners: dogs must be carried downstairs or use the service elevator. The elevators are FAST, but you do have to switch elevators at the lobby floor (30). Luckily, there are very nice bellhops who will happily take your shopping items up to your apartment. The staff is amazing, friendly, and helpful. There are some quirks: our shower doesn't drain because the floor is slanted the wrong way, and the ceiling in our guest bath is slowly lowering because of a lack of support. Our AC has had to be checked and fixed twice, and has leaked. Living in DIFC also adds its own interesting aspects. You must check to be sure all legalities that apply outside DIFC actually do apply within as well, since the zone often has its own "privileges."Show less

Amazing quality
The location and the overall quality of the whole building
Got quite expensive
We really loved our apartment in Index tower with its minimalistic style and amazing views. My wife liked the large enough kitchen with the long working surface and the hidden built-in appliances. Our flat faced the sea and the towers of Sheikh Zayed road, but the other side of the more… building has unbelievable views of Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai. The only small problem with the flat I can mention, is that the bedroom could have been bigger. Basically we put are bed in, and there was only space left to walk around it. The swimming pool and the gym on the lobby floor is simply great, I didn't need to go anywhere else to workout. Location-wise you can't get much better than this, 2 minutes from Dubai Mall and Sheikh Zayed road, plus all the restaurants and bars of DIFC.Show less
