The project is named after the Austrian three-time world champion Formula 1 driver, Niki Lauda.
A 29 and 26 storey twin skyscraper development in Business Bay proposed by German developer ACI Define Properties in 2007 but never built.
The project was designed to include retail and office space.
ACI launched a string of celebrity-branded towers in Dubai in 2007, including Michael Schumacher Business Avenue, Boris Becker Business Tower and Niki Lauda Twin Towers.
Construction on all three branded projects stalled in 2009 following the collapse of Dubai’s real estate market, and in September of the same year ACI Real Estate filed for bankruptcy on four of its seven property funds.
As of 2023, Italian developer, Preatoni Group, has taken over the project which had been suspended since 2008.
The initial investment, amounting to AED 160 million, remain in the escrow account and will be locked until the project is at least 50% complete.
The project was originally sold as a twin-tower office development, and was completely sold out at an average a price of AED 1,400 per square foot. The new developer has agreed with the original 400 investors to switch the project to residential use, and undergo a complete re-design by Killa Architects.
The new design will allow for a 25% increase in saleable units and construction is expected to take 3 years.
The project was originally designed by Al Hazim & Associates with Saqer Engineering & Contracting signed-up to build the towers.
