Nakheel Mall is a Dh2.5 billion 418,000 square metre shopping mall complex under construction on The Palm Jumeirah. It will be the first large-scale commercial project on the man-made island.
British supermarket chain Waitrose will be the first and flagship tenant at the mall occupying a 4,200 square metre area. Nearly half of available leasing space is already booked.
Nakheel Mall will have five retail levels with more than 100,000 square metres of retail space, three basement parking levels with 4,000 spaces, 200 shops, two anchor department stores, medical centre and fitness complex.
The mall will include a 15-screen VOX Cinema. The complex will be spread over two storeys and feature the VOX MAX big-screen concept as well as the VOX GOLD experience.
There will also be a roof plaza with a host of fine dining restaurants, as well as a selection of food and beverage outlets inside.
Alongside Nakheel Mall will be The Palm Tower, Nakheel's new, five-star, 50 storey hotel and residential building.
The existing monorail will run above the stores and through an art installation in the form of a massive crystal. Visitors will be able to look up at the trains as they pass. It will connect the mall to both the mainland and the Atlantis Hotel.
Nakheel recently announced the award of a AED1.2bn ($326mn) construction contract to United Engineering Construction (UNEC) and Actco General Contracting Company for the construction of Nakheel Mall.
Construction of the Nakheel Mall began in 2014 with anticipated completion in 2017.
