Jumeirah Lakes Towers is a mixed use waterfront district located behind Dubai Marina and is home to the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Free Zone, the largest and fastest growing free zone in the UAE, and an increasingly important regional commodities hub for trade and enterprise. Plans are already afoot for the so called ‘Burj 2020’ the world’s tallest commercial tower to be built right here.
The 87 existing tower blocks at JLT, as the place is known, are built around three lakes and a park and comprise commercial and residential buildings as well as hotels, shops and leisure facilities. Apart from the centrepiece 66 storey Almas Tower all the buildings range from 35 to 45 floors in height and are arranged in 23 clusters.
With a growing population of over 35,000 residents JLT suits singles and young couples who have come to Dubai to work. There are no houses or villas, just high-rise apartment blocks rubbing shoulders with classy, glassy corporate towers. The main attraction is being able to live close by the work place, although JLT also appeals to those who work out of town but enjoy a high-rise, high octane city lifestyle.
Apartments here are more affordable than those closer to Jumeirah Beach or Dubai Marina, but the JLT lifestyle is hard to beat with the landscaped lakeside promenade providing an ideal location for leisurely walks, jogging or cycling and community events.
From Jumeirah Lakes Towers it takes roughly 18 minutes to drive to Dubai Mall, 10 minutes to Palm Jumeirah, 15 minutes to Burj Al Arab and 13 minutes to The Walk JBR.*
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is roughly 42 minutes' drive and the new Al Maktoum International Airport is roughly 30 minutes' drive.*
JLT is well located close to Sheikh Zayed Road, the main highway running through Dubai and on to Abu Dhabi, but is also just ten minutes walk away from Jumeirah Beach and The Walk with its shops and continental cafe culture. Abu Dhabi is about an hour’s drive from JLT.
For those travelling within Dubai there are two handy metro stations, DMCC (was Jumeirah Lakes Towers) Station and DAMAC Properties (was Dubai Marina) Station. Dubai International Airport is a 50 minute ride on a state of the art driverless train. For the hyper lazy a golf buggy taxi will transport you from the metro station to your building for five dirhams.
There are 26 sub-communities in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. Learn more in the following guides.
For many residents and office workers here the only real attraction is Bonnington’s Irish Pub, but for those who have to eat there are plenty of restaurants and cafes, including live jazz evenings at Pizza Express. All tower clusters have mini-marts or convenience stores at concourse level and along the waterfront where you will also find medical clinics, gyms, health clubs and spas, and beauty parlours.
For proper shopping there are three malls, each the size of a small town, within ten minutes driving.
There are two schools just 12 minutes away, and four children’s playgrounds within JLT as well as shared pools for resident families and singles alike.
In March 2022 DMCC began installing solar car shades across the majority of Jumeirah Lake Towers district’s car parking areas.
Once the 6.3MW project is complete JLT will have one of the UAE’s largest district solar car shade installations resulting in a significant reduction in power consumption tariffs for the district. This will generate savings each year for property owners and make JLT more affordable for residents and tenants.
The project is being funded from the cost savings achieved by the energy generation, so there will be no additional cost to the JLT community.
The installation of solar panels across JLT follows on from another solar car shade initiative at One JLT.
In addition to the solar project, a range of energy saving initiatives have already been implemented and have reduced consumption from the national energy grid by over 30%.

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) was established in 2002 charged with promoting trade through the Emirate, and to undertake the master-development of the Jumeirah Lake Towers community.
JLT comprises 26 clusters, almost all containing three towers. Construction began shortly after incorporation and the first building, Saba Tower, was completed in December 2006.
In 2002 a consortium of Standard, Deutsche, and Dubai Islamic bank helped to launch a ground-breaking gold Sukuk, which raised $200 million, the proceeds of which were used to finance the construction of the community’s first commercial towers, Gold, Silver and Almas. (A sukuk is an Islamic financial certificate, similar to a bond in Western finance, which complies with Islamic religious law commonly known as Sharia.) The towers were completed in 2008.
DMCC became Dubai’s first government entity to receive a fully interactive rating from Standard & Poor.
The DMCC’s two metro stations opened in 2010, enabling fast and affordable transport for both commuters and visitors, as well as providing pedestrian access to Dubai Marina, JBR and the beach.
DMCC changed the purpose of one of its lakes to become a central park, creating a large green space of 55,000 square metres, as well as the JLT dog park. It also introduced several outdoor, free-to-use facilities including the JLT Court, while simultaneously encouraging the establishment of fitness and beauty boutiques across the clusters, of which today there are 324.
JLT’s F&B choices has grown from a handful of cafés to more than 460 cafes, restaurants and hotels.
In 2015 DMCC opened One JLT, a dedicated, Grade A office tower providing 26,000 square metre of space designed to LEED Gold certifications.
In 2017 JLT secured the ‘People’s Choice Family Friendly Location of the Year Award’, as well as an ‘Infrastructure & Real Estate Excellence Award’.
The DMCC has unveiled a new brand for JLT with the theme 'a neighbourhood full of soul.' In a press release the authority said that JLT brings together authenticity, ambition, balance, and collaboration. It has become a place where anyone can belong, and everyone can thrive.
The DMCC freezone is now home to over 21,000 companies from every industry and sector.
