  • Dubai Cricket Stadium is a stadium in Sports City, DubaiLand, Dubai.
  • Construction began in 2007 and was completed by 2009.
  • The project was designed by Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner.
  • From Dubai Cricket Stadium it takes roughly 21 minutes to drive to Dubai Mall, 15 minutes to Palm Jumeirah, 19 minutes to Burj Al Arab and 19 minutes to The Walk JBR.
  • Dubai International Airport (DXB) is roughly 27 minutes' drive and the new Al Maktoum International Airport is roughly 30 minutes' drive. All durations are calculated by Google Maps and assume the fastest route in typical traffic conditions.
  • The Dubai International Cricket Stadium was the first of four planned sports stadiums in Sports City.

  • The stadium seats 25,000 spectators and is ‘expandable’ to accommodate 30,000.

  • The circular building is partially covered with a fiberglass-woven, PTFE membrane stretched over a crossbow-like roof girder construction.

  • The purpose-built stadium is an amphitheatre with its own climate. The circular wall and partial roof shield the field from the sun so efficiently that some parts of it are never touched by the sun except at the height of summer.

  • The soil for the pitch came from Nandipur in Pakistan’s Punjab and is the same as was used for the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The Test pitch is kept evenly grassed by desalinised water sprinklers and is only exposed to the sun from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

  • Unlike traditional cricket grounds, the Dubai Cricket Stadium does not have floodlights on towers. Instead it employs a lighting system called 'Ring of Fire’ consisting of 356 spotlights mounted around the circumference of the roof to minimize shadows of the players from being cast onto the field.

  • The PA system was planned by Enno Finder of the Berlin specialists Acoustic Design Ahnert. The system uses ‘Outdoor Installation’ loudspeakers from the German manufacturer Kling & Freitag.

  • Construction was by a joint venture between Alpine Bau Deutschland and Belbadi Contracting JV, Abu Dhabi under the supervision of engineers SKM Consulting, Dubai.
