Dubai CommerCity Overview
Dubai CommerCity is an AED3.2 billion e-commerce free zone in Umm Ramool, close to Dubai International Airport. It aims to attract specialised companies wanting to establish their regional headquarters in the emirate.
The first phase, comprising 470,000sq ft of a planned total of 2.1m sq ft, was launched by Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (Dafza) in April 2021.
It contains a business cluster with more than 320,000sq ft of offices and 145,000sq ft of logistics units and multi-client warehouses. These are housed in a logistics cluster managed by Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and DHL.
By April 2021 more than 51 per cent of the warehouse space had already been leased.
Dubai CommerCity has also signed partnerships with e-commerce software provider Magento Commerce and consultancy Redbox Digital to offer an 'e-commerce as a service' package to online retailers.
Storage built at the site is offered under a pay-as-you-go model to allow companies to scale their operations in line with demand.
In 2020 the value of the e-commerce sector in the Middle East and North Africa region grew to $22bn, up from $4.2bn in 2015. The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt together account for 80 per cent of the region’s overall e-commerce market.
- The project was launched in 2017.
- The project is being developed by Dubai Airport Freezone Authority.
- From Dubai CommerCity it takes roughly 18 minutes to drive to Dubai Mall, 29 minutes to Palm Jumeirah, 28 minutes to Burj Al Arab and 33 minutes to The Walk JBR.
- Dubai International Airport (DXB) is roughly nine minutes' drive and the new Al Maktoum International Airport is roughly 47 minutes' drive. All durations are calculated by Google Maps and assume the fastest route in typical traffic conditions.
