5 min walk to the beach
We've been living here for over 3 years now and I don't see ourselves moving any time soon. the apartment is simply ideal for us, with great layout and good finishing. Our balcony is large enough to entertain guests although the Marina view is not that fancy than from a more… few other buildings down the road. The walking distance to the beach and all its facilities is unbeatable. The obvious downside is the traffic which you can not escape because of the location of the building. The opening of the tram did help a little, but it didn't solve the issues during rush hour. Other small negative is the soundproofing which I feel is not enough. We are lucky with our neighbors but still can hear them sometimes clearly. Show less

I moved in 2009 and despite the road changes that took place since then Dorra Bay is a great place to live with my family. 5 minute walk takes me to the beach, restaurants, cinema, clinic, pharmacy, supermarket. I have massive balcony with view of the Marina which I converted more… into a lovely garden so having cup of coffee on Friday morning is a bliss. My neighbors have been there for last 4 years too. Traffic can be a headache sometimes but that is also applicable for any popular area in Dubai. I love sports and the gym is perfect for all Gym addicts. My 6 years old goes down alone at the kids play which is wisely build away from the road area and chill with her friends. this community.Show less

Traffic Woes and Soundproofing Lows......

Traffic and Soundproofing
We moved into this building when it first opened 6 years ago. At that time there was no flyover and access in and out the building was quick and easy. However with the opening of the flyover and the increased popularity of The Walk at JBR entering and exiting Dorrabay more… is a nightmare on a daily basis. There is only one way into the building and its via a sliproad which is totally gridlocked for hours each day. Traffic enters the slip road from the main Road, JBR exit and from the sandy area used as a parking area, Sometimes its so bad you end up with 3 lanes of traffic driving round a one track road with impatient drivers trying to squeeze in and others pamping their horns. Once Al Batteen Residence is fully occupied the traffic will increase further. As for the apartments themselves, the soundproofing is terrible. You can hear almost every noise from next door, upstairs and downstairs neighbours. These range from scraping furniture across the floors, barking dogs and regular drilling and hammering noises from elsewhere in the building. You can even hear the upstairs neighbours toilets being flushed and showers running each day. Even little things like the kids/parents next door just talking or playing can be so loud you'd think they were in your apartment. A/C not the best either. We've been told to close our curtains to help keep the place cooler ! The apartment has a lovely view if you can see it through the dirty windows. Window cleaning is not a common event . The reason we've stayed so long is we like the location as you can walk to nearby restaurants and the beach but with the ever increasing traffic problems and associated noise levels now seems a good time to move out. My balcony - never found such a great one since.
The traffic
I lived In a beautiful 1 bedroom (850-900) sea-facing for 4 years and loved every minute of it. The building was built before the Crash and so no expense was spared on double glazing of windows - I was on the 4th floor and if I closed my balcony more… door I wouldn't even know there were cars outside. I had a lovely spacious balcony that fitted my fountain, a sofa, bbq and chairs and flowers comfortably and was great to sit out there and watch the ships enter and leave the harbour mouth - unfortunately the Double Tree is now blocking that view. Fantastic state of Art gym and sunny pool, great Hairdresser and Nail spa in building. Staff were always polite and friendly. I would move back to Dorra bay in a second. The traffic getting in and out can be frustrating at times, but is that not the norm for Marina at the moment?Show less

Close to jbr and the beach
Traffic.. Traffic and noise of traffic!
We thought it was great next to JBR and the beach when we moved. However what a nightmare it has been with traffic!!! You literally need one hour in traffic going in and one hour to go out... the worst part is that you could literally walk out of your more… car and go in the building since it is close. But you need to go around and under the bridge. The weekend is even worse. The traffic noise is unbearable up to 3-4 am in the morning! If you have babies like us, good luck!! Other than that, the elevators take forever and always under maintenance. Sometimes the garage gate gets jammed and you wait forever to get out. Don't be tempted by good price...don't buy... Don't rent... I cannot wait to leave!Show less

Close to the Beach and restaurants
The traffic / congestion and noise
While living in the increasingly popular Dubai Marina has it's perks (close to the beach, tons of shops, cafes and restaurants on the doorstep, plenty of bars and hotels nearby), the Marina itself has become very busy (lets see if the new tram improves things!). WIth the attraction of the more… beachside cinema complex 'The Beach on 'The Walk', traffic and an influx of enthusiastic visitors makes driving, parking and living increasingly frustrating. I work a 20 minute walk away from JLT (when it's not hot you CAN walk) but driving it can take me anything from 15mins to 1.5hours to commute because of the traffic. The noise level from my apartment (which is on level 2, facing on to the back of the lower townhouse buildings) is quite high. If it is not the sound of frustrated beeping cars or zooming sports cars then it is the neighbours either having a party, going out for one or coming in for one. (I dare imagine what a roadside/facing apartment is like!). This is a great place if you likes to be out, party, mingle, spend alot of time on the beach or at the local bars/restaurants, but it is really NOT the place to be if you are wanting a peaceful, quiet life. That said, security are friendly, maintenance are decent, a basic grocery store downstairs, there is underground parking, a decent sized equipped gym, lots in walking distance... In terms of the space, my one bed is 600-700sq/ft. Good for one person, 2 in here would be way too cosy for my liking (I rarely invite friends over as it feels cramped with 2). The balcony which overlooks the neighbours and a partial view of the sea is a huge wasted space that gathers a lot of dust. It could have made my bedroom 100sq/ft bigger, but it is nice to have an outdoor space if you are entertaining when it's cooler. Kitchen is a decent size, but the small sink and lack of dishwasher is a nightmare for anything more than a breakfast bowl or 2! Very little storage space in the bedroom (would be fine for a guy though!). Very small bathroom tucked awkwardly behind the bedroom door (no cat swinging in there thats for sure!) Overall finish is pretty good, not to an Emar standard of course but respectable! I have a cat and plenty neighbours also have varying sizes of cats and dogs so pets seem to be accepted. Overall - i would give this place a 6/7 out of 10 but I personally would prefer somewhere more peaceful a little bigger for the money spent! My advice, you have to come take a look, (I initially loved it!) but you have to love the area for all it offers as much as the apartment itself. Hope this helps!Show less
