Desert Rose City Overview
Desert Rose City is a planned 4,000 hectare city in Dubai just to the east of Academic City. The AED 30 billion project will be home to 160,000 people and will be surrouded by greenery in keeping with its eco-friendly theme.
The city will have 30,000 residences in total of which two thirds will be available to Emiratis and one third available to expatriates.
Desert Rose City is designed to produce 40,000 gallons of drinking water as well as 40 per cent of its own electricity via a 200 megawatt renewable energy plant. All the buildings will have solar panels on the roofs and there will be a waste recycling facility and eco-friendly buildings. The ultimate aim is to reduce the carbon footprint by 300,000 tonnes per year.
Desert Rose City Amenities
The city will have schools, shopping centres, clinics, hospitals, mosques, a police station and other services. Residents will also be able to enjoy a 25 kilometre eco-walk around the city.
In July 2016 the Desert Rose City project was approved by the Dubai Municipality and in October the same year progressed to the detailed design stage.
A seven kilometre light rail system is planned to link Desert Rose City to the Dubai Metro Green Line.
Desert Rose City History
The project was first approved by the Duabai government in May 2014 as part of a drive to encourage sustainable delvelopments in the Emirate.
The project will be adjacent to a 700 hectare green belt that is planned alongslide the Al Etihad Rail path. It will be used for agricultural production as well as recreational facilities.
